My current project is planting a perennial meadow. Not a wildflower meadow. Much and all as we find annuals like soldier poppies, blue cornflowers and cosmos hugely charming, they are not wildflowers to New Zealand and basically that is gardening with annuals, freshly sowing seed each season.
Trees generate the very oxygen we breathe as well as contributing to ecosystems and the environment.
I do think some plants need to know their place in life. Some clamour for way more attention than they deserve.
